A real strength for the intermodal terminal of Mortara is the fact that it is a part of the Mortara Intermodal Logistic Park, an innovative inter-port aimed at integrating intermodal transport generated by the terminal with logistics, meaning with installations for management of goods flows, all strictly respecting the environment.
The added value of intermodal transport
There are many benefits deriving from combined use of different means of transport:
|
|
environmental benefits deriving from a reduction in long distance road traffic |
|
reduction of air and acoustic pollution |
|
smaller accident rates |
|
energy savings: less CO2 emissions |
|
lower road maintenance costs |
But that’s not all, intermodal transport allows for optimising the transfer of goods and coordination and synergy among different carriers, with important economic benefits.
Carbon positive and connected logistics
Divided into two sections, one to the east and one to the southwest of the terminal, the logistical area of Mortara is a unique park: up to 180,000 sq m of sheds spread over nearly 340,000 sq m realised according to the most modern ecologically compatible logistical designs.
Photovoltaic plants, rainwater recovery systems, external micro-nebulization to lower the temperature of the building and natural ventilation all allow for increasing comfort inside the structures and cutting back on polluting emissions in the atmosphere.
The warehouses are also designed to integrate at the best with the territory and surrounding environment.
From a functional point of view there is the possibility of loading and unloading operations on both sides of the warehouse through the numerous cargo bays. The presence of ramps also allows to access the yard with forklifts or the vehicles to enter the warehouses directly.
There will also be the possibility of customizing warehouses to meet specific business requirements. Each structure, which may be finished with offices, is designed not only for storage, but to allow for half-finishing goods transiting the terminal and optimising the logistical cycle, with creation of jobs.
Finally, you should not forget that a full range of related services are available within the park.
